Note: Due to changes to the AV Club website, this extension isn't working properly at the moment.
In mid-August of 2017, AV Club (www.avclub.com) moved to a new content system called Kinja. Unfortunately, I found the new layout of the site too difficult to use. I've made this quick & dirty extension that reformats the main page of the site to be a little bit more like the old site. It isn't meant to look good. It's just meant to tide me over with enough features until they properly fix the main website.
This extension does not make any changes to the Kinja commenting system. You will need to get a different extension for that.
Instead, it focuses on how articles are laid on out of the main page. I mainly go to AV Club for the long-form content about certain subjects. Like the old site, the extension
- lists an article's subject along with its headline
- removes article excerpts in order to save space
- arranges articles in three columns so that it's faster to scan the headlines
- has a list of recent reviews
It also shrinks the newswire articles to just their headlines, just like the old site, so that they don't crowd out the long-form content. It can optionally do the same magic on "Great Job Internet" articles.
The extension downloads data from a separate website about what categories all the articles are.
Extore is a team of professionals who are passionate about creating extensions for web browsers. This devotion also gives us opportunity to appreciate work of other people. We get inspired by useful, open source extensions made by developers all over the world. Our strong belief is that one should share helpful add-ons with others. That’s why we’d like to present you our ever-growing list of favourite extensions that have inspired us. Moreover, as you probably have already learned, sometimes struggling for the best brings an end to the good. Talking about add-ons it often turns out that an upgrade is worse then previous version. Also it can become really tricky to get back to the beloved version of your favourite extension. That’s why we’re going to make not only the latest, but all versions of our favourite (and we hope yours too) add-ons available for download. No more compromises, just stick to the version you really like!
