The Health On the Net Foundation (HON) is the leading organization promoting and guiding the deployment of useful and reliable medical and health information online, and its appropriate and efficient use. Created in 1995, HON is a non-profit, non-governmental organization accredited to the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

The HONcode and its 8 principles (available in 35 languages) aim to improve the quality of health information on the Internet. The HONcode seal of approval is attributed to health websites that respect the 8 principles defined in the HONcode charter, letting users know that they can trust the information that they find on the website.
