The ancient name of Santorini is Thera, which was later renamed Saint Irene and was converted to Santorini in 1207. Santorini is an island ring of a group of volcanoes on the Aegean Sea 200 km southeast of the Greek mainland. The largest island on the island of Santorini is also called Santorini, alias Thira ( Thira).
