The Alterdot browser extension is the main facilitator of our decentralized web built upon blockchain and IPFS. The extension allows for blockchain domain name resolution and limited wallet functionality which is realized with the help of an Alterdot node that is running locally. An IPFS gateway must also be available on your machine in order to achieve full decentralization.
Even without local IPFS and Alterdot nodes, the browser extension will be able to resolve blockchain domains names as it will be using our own servers for domain resolution and a public IPFS gateway for accessing content.
Light wallet functionality will also be introduced in the future.
