One of the minor details that differentiates an SEO-friendly vs non-SEO-friendly website is whether each image has an “alt.” This is important because it helps substantially with Google and Google Image search result placements.
But the challenge is that it is easy to overlook alt tags. Are you sure that you’ve got all of them on your website?
United Virtualities is excited to launch a simple solution to this problem, MATIH: the Missing Alt Tags Image Highlighter.
This extension functions precisely as its name suggests: once turned on for a site, it highlights any image without an alt tag.
This allows for not just quick and easy search engine optimization, but really helps you find the edge cases of images in which you missed the alt tags, like those little social media icons at the bottom of your site.
UV has been using this Chrome extension internally to help our own website and SEO, and we’ve released it publicly so that other teams can also benefit from it as well. “Internal tooling, FTW” as we like to say.
If you have any questions or want to know more, email us at [email protected] or read about the extension on our extension page, https://weareuv.com/the-first-uv-chrome-extension-is-now-live-matih-the-missing-alt-tag-image-highlighter/
Saving the best for last, while various team members at United Virtualities advised in making this extension, we want to thank in particular Elias Ibarra (lead developer), Agustina Alvarez (design), and JJ Segado and Morgan Friedman (no one is quite sure how they contributed but somehow they did).
While developing this plugin, here is the music we listened to:
Elias: Jose Jose's Gavilan o Paloma
JJ: Ozzy Osbourne's Devil's Daughter (Holy War)
Agustina: Coldplay's A Head Full of Dreams
Morgan: Dalida's J’Attendrai
Extore is a team of professionals who are passionate about creating extensions for web browsers. This devotion also gives us opportunity to appreciate work of other people. We get inspired by useful, open source extensions made by developers all over the world. Our strong belief is that one should share helpful add-ons with others. That’s why we’d like to present you our ever-growing list of favourite extensions that have inspired us. Moreover, as you probably have already learned, sometimes struggling for the best brings an end to the good. Talking about add-ons it often turns out that an upgrade is worse then previous version. Also it can become really tricky to get back to the beloved version of your favourite extension. That’s why we’re going to make not only the latest, but all versions of our favourite (and we hope yours too) add-ons available for download. No more compromises, just stick to the version you really like!
