Description

Since Chrome 71, SMB is now natively supported by Chrome OS and this Chrome extension/app is deprecated. The new implementation is an order magnitude or two faster and much more reliable.

On Chrome 71 or higher you can:

Open the files app
Click the "three dot menu" in the top right
Choose "Add New Service"
Choose "SMB file share"

A dialog in settings will open (in 72 and later it's a standalone dialog). Enter your share information as before.

You can uninstall the chrome app as it will be deprecated in the near future.

If you have bugs with the new implementation you can open them at crbug.com under component "Platform>Apps>FileManager"

Original Description
-------------------------------------------------

This application allows users to mount an SMB file share in their files app in Chrome OS. That way, users can access their remote files seamlessly from their Chromebook, opening, modifying, and deleting them.

Integration with Chrome browser is seamless as well. For example, users can upload an attachment directly from their remote share without having to download it on the device first.

This application is a direct port of the Samba client which can be found at https://samba.org. As such, it supports the entire feature set supported by Samba client.

Version 0.80.17230 and higher no longer supports SMBv1.

This application is open-sourced under the GNU General Public License. The full source code can be found at https://github.com/GoogleChrome/chromeos_network_file_share.

What has inspired us?

Extore is a team of professionals who are passionate about creating extensions for web browsers. This devotion also gives us opportunity to appreciate work of other people. We get inspired by useful, open source extensions made by developers all over the world. Our strong belief is that one should share helpful add-ons with others. That’s why we’d like to present you our ever-growing list of favourite extensions that have inspired us. Moreover, as you probably have already learned, sometimes struggling for the best brings an end to the good. Talking about add-ons it often turns out that an upgrade is worse then previous version. Also it can become really tricky to get back to the beloved version of your favourite extension. That’s why we’re going to make not only the latest, but all versions of our favourite (and we hope yours too) add-ons available for download. No more compromises, just stick to the version you really like!
